Inlays and Onlays Near You
Inlays and onlays are long-lasting restorations for larger-sized cavities that are great alternatives to fillings and crowns. These restorations are made in a dental laboratory and custom-fitted for your mouth and unique bite. Not only do they restore function to your teeth, but they also protect your tooth from further damage and decay.
What to Expect from Inlays and Onlays
Each type of restoration fits a different portion of your teeth and is custom-fitted for you. During your appointment, our dentists will clean out your filling area. Next, the gap left behind is used to create the mould for the inlay or onlay. While waiting for your custom piece to arrive and be bonded to your tooth, our dentists will fit you with a temporary cover.
What Is the Difference Between an Inlay and Onlay?
The inlay is the piece that is applied between the cusps of the tooth without covering the surrounding area. The onlay is the piece that can wrap over the cusps and around the tooth. Both pieces are constructed of one material section and bonded directly to the tooth. They can be made from porcelain, gold, and composite resins.
