Sedation dentistry is an option available for patients who feel anxious or fear regarding dental appointment in procedures. For restoration procedures, sedation dentistry is used in conjunction with local anesthesia so you can feel relaxed and pain-free throughout the process. If you have a fear of the dentist, needles, or general anxiety, speak with our dentists about whether sedation dentistry is suitable for you.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation Dentistry
Using nitrous oxide during dental procedures helps to take the edge off the experience, helping you relax easier. Nitrous oxide, sometimes called laughing gas, takes effect immediately and wears off quickly, allowing you to continue your day after the procedure. You’ll also be completely conscious throughout the appointment.
Oral sedation requires a bit of preparation before your appointment. You’ll receive a prescription for the medication in advance. You’ll also be required to follow the instructions from the dentist regarding how much to take and when before the appointment. Oral sedation will make you tired, which is why you’ll be required to arrange a ride to and from your appointment. Our dentists will discuss the process with you in advance.
